Set up Lightning Sync for Google in Salesforce

Modified on Thu, 22 Feb 2018 at 12:45 PM

Welcome to the Lightning Sync user guide! This guide will walk you through how to set up Lightning Sync in your Salesforce Org. When you enable Lightning Sync in Salesforce, your Salesforce Org will be able to connect with your company’s G Suite server through OAuth2.0. Afterward, you will be able to set up Lightning Sync Configuration to sync your Salesforce users’ contacts and events with the G Suite server. Contacts that are synced to your email server can then be synced to your mobile address book (iPhone or Android).

Enable Lightning Sync in Salesforce

Activating Lightning Sync in your Salesforce Org allows your Salesforce to communicate with your company’s G Suite server.

Please note: Your Salesforce administrator only needs to enable Lightning Sync once in your Salesforce Org.

User Permissions Needed: Customize Application, Manage Users, and Manage Lightning Sync.

In your Salesforce Setup:

  • Type Sync in the Quick Find box.

  • Click Settings under Lightning for Google and Sync.

  • Toggle Lightning Sync on.

Register Google with Salesforce

After enabling Lightning Sync for Google in Salesforce, we will need to register the Google API site.

Under the Connect with Google section:

  • Click Register Site.
  • Click New Remote Site.
  • Name the site Google_API.
  • Input https://www.googleapis.com in the URL.
  • Enable the Active checkbox.
  • Click Save.

Connect to G Suite Server via OAuth2.0

To allow Salesforce and G Suite Server to communicate, we will need to securely connect with your G Suite server.

Please note: Your Salesforce administrator only needs to set up Salesforce connection to your G Suite once.

Under the Prepare your G Suite account section:

  • Click Upload Files.

  • Upload the JSON key you have previously saved. This should be the same key that was provided to you by your Google administrator after they configured your Google API Console.

  • Click Save.

Next, test that Salesforce is able to connect with your G Suite server.

Under Connection Test section:

  • Type the email address for someone who has a mailbox set up on your email server.

  • Click Test.

You have completed the steps to activate Lightning Sync for Google in your Salesforce Org and connect your G Suite server to Salesforce!
